NBA insider Marc Stein recently disclosed intriguing details about the Dallas Mavericks offseason workout held in Los Angeles, featuring Kyrie Irving and new signing Klay Thompson.

According to Stein, the workout session was notable not just for the on-court activities but also for the off-court bonding among players. “Everything I heard about the minicamp was that the on-court stuff was great, but maybe the off-court stuff was even better,” Stein reported.

Stein mentioned that most of the Mavericks team attended the workout, with the exception of two players not based in the U.S. “From what I’ve been told, pretty much everyone was there,” he said.

Irving, who had undergone surgery on his left hand in July, participated in the sessions despite being limited in his activities. “Kyrie, I’m told, was there throughout. He has not been cleared yet for full five-on-five hoop, but he remains on course to be cleared in time for training camp,” Stein added.

Thompson, a Southern California native, was also present, contributing to the workout’s positive atmosphere. “Of course, it’s in L.A., so Southern California native Klay Thompson’s going to be there,” Stein noted.

The Mavericks, who made headlines last season with a strong performance, showed commitment to their preparation for the upcoming NBA season. “A lot of gym time, a lot of bonding activities,” Stein described, emphasizing the modern approach to team building.

Stein highlighted that the Mavericks’ effort in late August is a promising sign. “The fact that they’re all getting together in late August, a month before camp really starts, I mean, I don’t see how you would look at that as anything but encouraging,” he said.

The 2023–24 Mavericks season saw the team finish 5th in the Western Conference and advance to the NBA Finals, where they were defeated by the Boston Celtics.
