Damian Lillard believes an NBA championship was within reach if LaMarcus Aldridge had stayed with the Portland Trail Blazers.
In a recent interview on the Club 520 podcast, Lillard expressed his thoughts on the missed opportunity.
“If [LaMarcus Aldridge] would have never gone to San Antonio, we would have won at least once already,” Lillard said.
Lillard reflected on Aldridge’s impact on the team. “I would have come into my own but he was that good,” he added.
Aldridge, who retired in March 2023, left the Trail Blazers in 2015 after nine seasons. His departure to the San Antonio Spurs marked a significant shift for Portland.
Lillard’s comments highlight how crucial Aldridge was to the team’s success. Despite multiple individual accolades, Lillard has yet to secure an NBA championship.
The Trail Blazers had a competitive roster during Aldridge’s tenure, but the team struggled to capture the title. Lillard’s career has seen significant personal achievements, but the elusive championship remains a goal.
