LeBron James has given the Los Angeles Lakers a week to add a star to the roster after missing out on Klay Thompson and Jonas Valanciunas.

The Lakers pursued Thompson and Valanciunas in free agency but fell short, with Thompson joining the Dallas Mavericks and Valanciunas signing with the Washington Wizards.

James had considered taking a substantial pay cut to provide the Lakers with more cap space to sign a star player. However, following the unsuccessful attempt to land Thompson, James now plans to take a supermax deal with the Lakers.

NBA insider Chris Haynes reports that James has issued an ultimatum to the Lakers’ front office to make a significant move within a week.

The Lakers have had exploratory talks with the Portland Trail Blazers regarding Jerami Grant, according to Haynes.

Grant is on a five-year, $160 million contract and averaged 21 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 33.9 minutes per game last season. Haynes anticipates that the Lakers will make a significant move soon.

Another potential Lakers target DeMar DeRozan is out of reach for the Purple and Gold as he is unwilling to accept a $13 million contract, according to Haynes.
