Minnesota Timberwolves general manager Tim Connelly has publicly addressed the rape allegations against Terrence Shannon Jr. following the team’s decision to draft him at No. 27 in the first round.
Connelly emphasized that Minnesota conducted extensive due diligence before selecting Shannon, ensuring they were fully informed about the situation.
“We did. We did a ton,” Connelly said, adding that it’s unfortunate the allegations overshadow the player’s acquittal and his character, via Chris Hine.
He expressed sympathy for Shannon, noting that accusations can often lead to premature judgments regardless of the legal outcome.
Connelly praised Shannon’s resilience, highlighting his decision to go to trial, confident in his innocence.
“It’s a testament to who he is as a kid and his ability to play through a really tough distraction,” the executive stated.
Shannon was accused of sexual assault on September 9, 2023, and was later arrested in December.
Despite facing these serious allegations, Shannon was acquitted on June 13 after a trial revealed inconsistencies and lack of evidence.
The Timberwolves also acquired Rob Dillingham, the No. 8 pick from the San Antonio Spurs.
