In an amazing EuroLeague’s Finals Panathinaikos beat Real Madrid with 15 points difference (95-80), and got its 7th trophy in the club history.
One of the key players of the match, Konstantinos Mitoglou, explained that at the beginning of the season coach Ergin Ataman told them they will win the EuroLeague’s trophy.
“This one is a little different. If you think about Panathinaikos last year, the team was 17th. And when we gathered the first day and I have broken my finger, so I have to be there first day instead with the national team, coach Ataman said we are going to win the EuroLeague. I am not going to lie to you, everybody was skeptical. He made us believed it, and today, 10 months later, we are champs of Europe. That is why he is different. I don’t know if any other team being 17th would win the EuroLeague next season. I wanted to congratulate to all of us, we deserved it”, said Dinos after the Panathinaikos won his first EuroLeague’s5 trophy since 2011.
In the first half, Real Madrid was dominating the court and whenever Pao was attacking club from Spain rejected their attacks. In the second part of the match, it was totally different view. Panathinaikos was making big shots, while with an excellent defense they didn’t allow back to back for Real Madrid.
“In the first half, we didn’t play aggressive enough in defense, and when we start being aggressive we decreased the difference and we started doing our thing. That helped us a lot, especially when we managed to control the result”, continued “Mito”, who made two three points shots in the crucial moments for the team.
“Yes, I did it. I got in, coach told me I will be playing little bit as a center. I wanted to shoot it, felt it I will make it, and I make it. That was the first one, the second one was even easier”, finished Mitoglou brief interview after becoming 2024 EuroLeague’s champ.
