New York Knicks legend Charles Oakley heaped praise on the team’s point guard Jalen Brunson, placing him among the Knicks’ greats.
According to him, Brunson is ahead of New York icons such as Patrick Ewing and Carmelo Anthony because of he is able to lead the team, despite missing support from Julius Randle.
“Brunson is the best thing since Walt Frazier,” Oakley said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “I know somebody gonna say, ‘What about Patrick [Ewing] and Carmelo [Anthony]?’ Ok, they didn’t do this. They had the chance to show. They needed more players. Brunson’s playing without Julius [Randle] and what he’s doing, it’s incredible.”
After averaging 28.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 6.7 assists in 35.4 minutes per game during the regular season, Brunson has stepped up his game even further in the playoffs. He is averaging 34.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 8.4 assists in 43.8 minutes per game in the first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Last night he dropped 40 points, but the Knicks lost to the Sixers in overtime. New York leads 3-2 in the series.
