The Toronto Raptors big man Jontay Porter could face a lifetime ban from the NBA if allegations of gambling involvement are proven true.

Commissioner Adam Silver has labeled the accusations a “cardinal sin,” emphasizing their severity. Porter’s early exits from two games this season have raised suspicions, particularly regarding prop bets related to his performance.

If found culpable, Porter could face serious consequences, as Silver has emphasized the NBA’s zero-tolerance policy on such matters.

“I have enormous range of discipline available to me,” Silver said at the league’s board of governors meetings this week. “It’s cardinal sin what he’s accused of in the NBA.”

“The ultimate extreme option I have is to ban him from the game. That’s the level of authority I have here because there’s nothing more serious.”
