New Detroit Piston Simone Fontecchio spoke very highly of rookie Ausar Thompson’s phenomenal defense after Saturday’s 112-109 home loss vs. the Orlando Magic.

Johnny Kane: “One of the rookies on this team, Ausar Thompson, is establishing his identity as a lockdown defender. What did you notice about the way he was able to lock up Franz Wagner for the majority of tonight?”
Fontecchio: “I think he was great, he was great. His ability to play defense on-ball, off-ball, coming for the help. On-ball defense is probably already like an elite defender in the league, definitely. His slant, physicality, his athleticism…. It’s great. He can only get better, definitely.”
