Valencia got their Liga Endesa season off to a flying start after they beat last season’s all-conquering Real Madrid 88-82 in the Spanish capital.

Justin Hamilton poured in a game-high 24 points for Valencia as they picked up a great win on the road to the reigning Liga Endesa champions.

Ante Tomic was in top form for Barcelona as the Catalan side picked up an 84-76 victory over Zaragoza at the Palau Blaugrana.

Tomic led Barca with 23 points and six rebounds as they eventually pulled clear of Zaragoza in the fourth quarter of what was otherwise, a closely-fought battle.

A scrappy tip-dunk with 3.1 seconds left from Fran Vazquez earned Unicaja Malaga a 60-58 success over UCAM Murcia.

Edwin Jackson paced Unicaja with 13 points in a game where both teams struggled to settle into any kind of rhythm offensively.

Laboral Kutxa are looking to mend what was an awful domestic season for them last year, an they have started on the right foot by thrashing Estudiantes 85-58 in Madrid.

Fabien Causeur led the victors with 19 points in a game that was virtually decided after the first quarter when the Vitoria-based side led 31-15.

Elsewhere in the first week of Liga Endesa action, there were wins for Gran Canaria, who eased past Gipuzkoa 97-64 thanks to 23 points from Kyle Kuric.

Fuenlabrada got their season off to a winning start by ousting Manresa 78-60. Joventut Badalona got the better of Tenerife 83-75, Rio Monbus hammered Sevilla 88-53 and Bilbao got a solid 79-69 road win at Andorra.
