Lithuanian basketball powerhouse Zalgiris Kaunas is set to bolster its roster with the addition of NBA free agent Edmond Sumner, making strategic moves after parting ways with Ignas Brazdeikis and Naz Mitrou-Long, who recently joined Olympiacos, according to reports by Rokas Pakenas of 15min.lt.

Sumner, a 27-year-old guard, became a free agent after being waived by the Charlotte Hornets in October, just before the commencement of the NBA season.

In the previous NBA season, Sumner showcased his skills with the Brooklyn Nets, averaging 7.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 13.9 minutes per game.

Drafted by the New Orleans Pelicans in 2017 and subsequently traded to the Indiana Pacers, Sumner’s journey in the NBA has been marked by versatility and contributions on both ends of the floor.

After a trade to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021 and subsequent re-signing in 2022, Sumner found himself on the move again. On July 15, 2023, he was waived by the Nets, opening the door for the next chapter in his basketball career.

Zalgiris aims to leverage Sumner’s skills and experience as they navigate both domestic and international competitions.

Zalgiris, currently facing challenges with five losses in six games EuroLeague and two of their last three LKL (Lithuanian Basketball League) games, seeks to reignite their momentum with the addition of Sumner.

The Greens currently stand at 14th in EuroLeague, securing four wins and suffering six losses. In the LKL, they hold the second position with nine wins and two losses.

As the team undergoes strategic roster changes, the addition of Sumner brings anticipation and excitement for Zalgiris fans, eager to see how the dynamic guard will contribute to the team’s success.
