The NBA’s new In-Season Tournament has sparked enthusiasm among players, with Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. expressing the team’s goal to secure victory in the competition and lift the coveted NBA Cup.

This season marks the inauguration of the In-Season Tournament, featuring a unique structure and a substantial reward of $500,000 for each winning player, providing an extra layer of motivation for teams.

Porter emphasized the collective ambition within the Nuggets to claim the tournament title, citing the financial incentive as a significant bonus, especially for younger players on rookie contracts.

“It’s a goal of ours to win it… We know that tomorrow’s another game that goes towards that. It’s a big game for us,” Porter remarked, per Harrison Wind.

While acknowledging the appealing monetary reward, Porter stressed that the primary focus remains on the competitive spirit and the desire to win.

“The incentive is always nice. No matter how much money you have. $500,000 is nice, especially for young guys who are on their rookie contract. We all have a collective goal to win, not really for the money, it’s just competing,” he added.

Currently leading West Group B with a 2-0 record, the Nuggets are gearing up for their upcoming In-Season Tournament clash against the Pelicans.
