Despite Tony Parker’s announcement over the weekend that Gordon Herbert would assume ASVEL’s coaching duties on Monday, the Canadian-Finnish head coach has been barred by the German basketball federation from taking on the role with the French club while continuing to lead Germany.
In an interview with Kicker, the 64-year-old coach emphasized his ongoing three-year commitment to the German national team.
“I have made a three-year commitment. If the players have also made such a three-year commitment, I stand by it without any doubt,” Herbert said. “I love the players, it’s an honor to coach them.”
