Spencer Dinwiddie’s long-awaited EuroLeague debut with Bayern Munich didn’t make much noise statistically, but head coach Gordon Herbert believes it’s only a matter of time before the veteran guard finds his rhythm.

Despite Bayern’s win, Dinwiddie finished with just six points, making one field goal and four free throws in limited action.

Herbert, who led Germany to the 2023 FIBA World Cup title and previously worked with the Brooklyn Nets as a consultant, acknowledged the adjustment period facing the former NBA guard.

“I knew it was going to be difficult; it’s a different game, and he hasn’t practiced,” Herbert said after the game. “I think it’s going to transition fast, that’s my feeling. He has a great game understanding, he is a smart kid, and he makes some really good passes. So I think it’s going to be a really good fit.”

Known for his calm demeanor and dry sense of humor, Herbert noted that Dinwiddie will benefit from the more structured practice schedule typical of European basketball.

“Obviously, we are going to find the right fit. We have two practices on Saturday and Sunday. In the NBA, they don’t practice, so this is going to be something different for him, but he needs to practice,” he said.

Still, Herbert expressed confidence that Dinwiddie’s transition will be smooth, both on and off the court.

“We are excited to have him; he is fitting really well in the locker room, it’s easy,” the Canadian coach added.
