Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns from the Dominican Republic encountered foul-related issues. Despite this, the Dominican Republic team became the inaugural squad from Group A to progress to the Second Round of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. They achieved this by triumphing over Angola with a score of 75-67.

The Caribbean team was led by Andres Feliz, who contributed 17 points in the historic first encounter between these two teams. This victory propelled the Dominican Republic to a 3-0 record in the group stage, while Angola’s record dropped to 1-2.

Notably, Karl-Anthony Towns, a prominent player for the Dominican Republic, faced constraints, amassing 3 fouls within the initial 4 minutes of the match. Consequently, he only managed to score 8 points and had a mere 3 points throughout three-quarters of the game.

“We got the win and Dominican Republic is going crazy right now,” Karl-Anthony Towns said. “We have a special team. Everyone counted us out and didn’t think we could be great. But in practice with one of the best coaches in the world with ‘Che’ (Garcia) we believed that we could do something amazing.

“I think the world is going to notice now. From the bottom of my heart, all of the Dominican Republic needs to send their gratitude and love to Coach Che. Because without him I don’t think any of this is possible.”
