Before becoming an NBA star, Paul George’s journey began with a fishing rod, not a basketball. The LA Clippers star recently opened up about his unconventional childhood, where fishing played a pivotal role due to his father’s passion.

Originating from Houston, George’s father instilled in him a love for fishing that began before he ever stepped onto a basketball court. Recalling his early days, George shared, “My dad is from Houston. He fished his whole life. As a kid that was all I knew, like I probably picked up a fishing pole before I picked up a basketball.”

Growing up as the odd one out in the neighborhood due to his unique hobby, George fondly remembered how fishing brought him and his father closer together. He explained, “Our bonding was over fishing. We’ll wake up five, four o’clock in the morning… early mornings you get on the lake and we would just bond and kick it for hours.”
