In a highly anticipated scrimmage at the FIBA World Cup training camp, the USA Select Team pulled off a surprise victory against the seasoned Team USA.
Led by 2021 No. 1 pick, Cade Cunningham, the up-and-coming stars defeated the likes of Jalen Brunson and Anthony Edwards with a final score of 47-39 in a two-part game.
The upset comes as no surprise to head coach Steve Kerr, who called it a “time-honored tradition” of USA Basketball. He explained that the Select Team’s role is to challenge and push Team USA to bring out their best. This tradition of inter-squad scrimmage has been an essential part of building a competitive and cohesive national team.
