The United States reportedly reached out to Fred VanVleet for a potential service in this year’s FIBA Basketball World Cup, per Joe Vardon of The Athletic.

VanVleet, 29, is yet to wear a Team USA gear in his career, but his scoring reputation and playmaking could be critical for the Steve Kerr-led squad.

The star point man registered 9.3 points and 7.2 assists in 39.3 percent shooting this season. He recently opted out his player option for next season in order to become an unrestricted free-agent this summer.

Walker Kessler was recently added by the Americans to the list of their participating players for the world championship. The prestigious tournament will commence from Aug. 25 to Sept. 10.
