After playing scarcely in his rookie season, there is an expectation that Peyton Watson will see a significant rise in his role with the Denver Nuggets next year, especially if Bruce Brown decides to leave in free agency, per Zach Lowe of ESPN.

“Watson fell to Denver at No. 30. He didn’t play much this year, but coaches, players and staff are optimistic he could seize a big role next season – especially if Brown leaves in free agency,” Lowe wrote.

Watson was chosen by the Nuggets for the 30th pick of last year’s NBA Draft out of UCLA. Unlike Christian Braun, he didn’t gain much playing exposure as the club heavily relied on their veteran wings like Brown, Aaron Gordon, Michael Porter Jr., Jeff Green, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

Regarded for his length and upside as a promising wingman, Watson only averaged 3.3 points and 1.3 boards in 23 games for Denver while spending most of his time in the team’s G League affiliate in Grand Rapids Gold throughout this season.

Both Denver and Brown got an important summer to seize as the super sixth man is likely to opt out of his $6.8 million player option and capitalize on the strong postseason display he made to help the franchise’s championship success.
