Jamal Murray and the Nuggets will play in their first ever NBA Finals after sweeping the Lakers in the conference finals.
The 26-year-old point guard, who did not win the Western Conference Finals MVP which is named after Magic Johnson – the award was give to his teammate Nikola Jokic – was asked if he wants to win the Finals MVP.
“No, we’re just trying to win a championship. All that comes after you win the championship,” Murray said. “So if we were to lose, no one gets that trophy, right? So we win a championship, everybody eats. I’m just excited to see everybody succeed.”
Murray is averaging 27.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.1 assists in 39.1 minutes per game in this year’s playoffs.
The Nuggets will face either the Heat or the Celtics in the Finals. Miami leads the Eastern Conference Finals 3-2.
