Orlando’s rookie Paolo Banchero is open when speaking about his personal goals – he wants to win the Rookie of the Year award.

But he also understands that for that to happen the Magic has to be a competitive team and win games. Currently Orlando is 13th in the Eastern Conference with 25 wins and 35 losses. The last team in the play-in zone, the Wizards, are 28-30.

“Rookie of the Year is definitely something I want to win,” the number one pick of the 2022 NBA Drat said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. “Hopefully I can finish out this season strong and secure the award.

“But I think what’s going to put me over the top the most for that award is if we’re winning and if we’re able to compete and make that play-in. So, that’s the number one focus, that’s the main goal for me is to win as many games and the rest will take of itself.”

This season Banchero is averaging 19.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.6 assists in 33.7 minutes per game.
