The Boston Celtics have picked up their team option for the 2023-24 season on Payton Pritchard, sources told Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe on Saturday.

His fourth-year salary will be guaranteed for around $4.03MM dollars. Furthermore, he is slated to be rookie-scale extension eligible next summer.

Pritchard, 24, has been a steady contributor for the Celtics in the last three seasons. A reliable ball handler often coming off the bench, he provided a good breather on the side of reigning Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart last season, averaging 6.2 points and 2.0 assists on over 42 percent shooting.

But he now saw a limited role due to the Cs’ current logjam at backcourt upon the added presence of Derrick White and Malcolm Brogdon, appearing in just two games so far, and playing nine total minutes.

As such, this move made by the Celtics can only ensure that he remains a part of their plans and title aspirations.
