The Los Angeles Lakers are shelving Russell Westbrook for their matchup against the Denver Nuggets, sources told Shams Charania of The Athletic. Westbrook was initially listed as doubtful to play as he continues to nurse his hamstring injury.

Per Charania, the Lakers are inserting Austin Reaves in the starting unit in place of Westbrook, joining LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Lonnie Walker IV and Patrick Beverley.

Charania further added that rotational moves could continue depending on what will be the result of the match. The Lakers are currently in the deep water and holding a winless 0-3 card, as they face the title-contending Nuggets this Wednesday.

Sources told Charania that both head coach Darvin Ham and Westbrook have been in contact with each other to try to find the best role possible for the former All-star guard. Ham tried inserting Westbrook on the bench unit in the team’s final preseason contest, but the idea didn’t show any result as he exited prematurely due to the said injury against the Sacramento Kings.
