Kyrie Irving is getting closer to his return, as Nets’ head coach Steve Nash said prior to the game against the Clippers Saturday.

Even at 23-10, which is ranked as the second-best record in the East, Brooklyn relied heavily on Kevin Durant and James Harden.

Irving has yet to play a game this season due to a combination of New York’s vaccine mandate and the team not wanting Irving to play just part-time at the start of the season.

“[Kyrie Irving] looks great, considering he was in isolation,” Nash said. “So for him to come out of that and to look as good as he has playing with the stay-ready group and getting his rhythm back has been exciting….We have to give him time to get his feet under him. As far as he looks, he looks very gifted.”

Because of the vaccine mandate, Irving cannot play at home in Brooklyn, and the earliest he can play is the Nets’ Jan. 5 tip-off against the Indiana Pacers.
