The Los Angeles Lakers added one in their wins column after taking down the Memphis Grizzlies at Staples Center. Six players finished in double digits for the winners, two of them came off the bench.

Carmelo Anthony had a team-high 28 points, followed by Anthony Davis 22, LeBron James with 19, Russell Westbrook with 13, Malik Monk with 12, Kent Bazemore with 11.

After the game, Davis talked about the contributions of the second unit, first win of the season and the coming road games against the Spurs and Thunder.

“Melo played his a*s off,” he said. “He shot the ball extremely well. I think he was 6/8 from three. He comes in and gives us a spark. Malik [Monk] came in, played well. Austin [Reaves] had some hustle plays.

“We just got to continue to play with a sense of urgency. I think we did that tonight. We had some possessions where we got caught off guard and they made some plays, job got high. We had a little bit of problem with offensive rebounding. But for the most part we played extremely well and were able to come out with the win.”

“We don’t really look too much into preseason but we kind of get that monkey off our back with a win. We’re going to a road trip. What we feel like can get both of these wins too. And just kind of start going. For now let this win be a momentum booster for us.

“These next 10 games, taking 10 games at a time and try to have a winning record out of 10 games. We’ve got to be a momentum booster where we can keep going and let this guy [Carmelo Anthony] keep shooting threes.”
