Cleveland Cavaliers are hoping to bring Lauri Markkanen back to his old self, after acquiring him from the Chicago Bull via a sign-and-trade deal.

Markkanen saw his role diminish with the Chicago Bulls during the past two seasons. This led him to seek a change of scenery this offseason.

The Cavs are confident that Markkanen’s new start will bring out his best possible version of him, especially on the offensive end, where Cleveland needs him the most.

“The Cavs believe a change of scenery and abundance of organizational support will allow the former top-10 pick to recapture his early-career form and maximize his immense potential,” wrote Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com.

Markkanen has career averages of 15.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game on 44.0 percent shooting from the field and 36.6 percent shooting from beyond the arc.

The Finnish big explained how happy he is about the new start with his new team, after seeing his playing time being diminish in the last two seasons.

“Looking forward to that,” Markkanen said during his introductory Zoom call on Thursday. “Being in a new place, I think it’s always exciting.

It’s going to take some time to get used to all the new and different stuff and getting to live in Cleveland, but I’m excited and looking forward to this new chapter,” Markkanen explained.
