The Greek Basketball Federation could face the possibility of being banned from every International competition until the debt to coach Andrea Trinchieri is paid.

The Italian has been the head coach of the Greek National team and signed a contract for the next two years, with a total income of €220.000.

Since the coach only stayed to the team for one year, this amount is reduced to half, €110.000. Trinchieri initially decided not to draw much attention to the matter of his payment until now. He addressed this matter to BAT [Basketball Arbitral Tribunal], asking for the money the Greeks owned him.

The coach’s lawyer claims that their side warned EOK [Greek Basketball Federation], and then gave them a deadline until January but so far has received no answer.

The Greek side claims that there has being a payment of €50.000 but there were no paychecks given – they blame the opposing side. More specifically, Panagiotis Tsagaronis, the EOK Secretary-General said in the Greek media “We have already given 50.000 euro without any paycheck from the opposing side. If they had brought the necessery justifactories, right from the start, nothing would have happened. We owe them 60.000

However BAT seems to taking Trinchieri’s side, forcing EOK to pay €110.000 that must be paid as soon as possible so that the team will not have to face the consequences of their actions that show an irresponsible way of dealing with economic matters.

It is not the first time they are in such a danger since coach Jonas Kazlauskas’ debt was paid right on time.
