In a strategic move following Zalgiris Kaunas’ recent challenges in the EuroLeague, including six-game losing streak, head coach Kazys Maksvytis and the Lithuanian champions have parted ways by mutual consent.

Maksvytis, who also serves as the coach of the Lithuania national team, will be succeeded by seasoned Italian coach Andrea Trinchieri. Maksvytis, who took on the role in April 2022, played a crucial role in the team’s surprise playoff appearance last season.

Trinchieri, who has coached Bayern Munich for the past three years, brings a wealth of experience, having led teams like Partizan Belgrade, Brose Baskets Bamberg, and Unics Kazan.

The 55-year-old Italian coach has worked in the EuroLeague for eight seasons, guiding Bayern Munich to EuroLeague playoffs in 2021 and 2022. His contract with Zalgiris Kaunas extends until the conclusion of the 2024-2025 season.
