Joel Embiid was not in favor of the Philadelphia 76ers hiring Tyronn Lue as the new head coach of the franchise.
Lue, who was one of the candidates to take over the Sixers, eventually replaced Doc Rivers at the helm of the Los Angeles Clippers.
“Sources across the NBA said the Sixers’ other star, Joel Embiid, ultimately opposed Lue as coach for X’s and O’s reasons and for the optics of Simmons’ “guy” getting the job,” Bill Oram and Joe Vardon of The Athletic report.
The Sixers hired Rivers as head coach, who signed a five-year deal with the farnchise.
