Gustavo Ayon said he wanted to return to Real Madrid in the offseason, yet the “Whites” had no intention to sign him.

The Mexican center and two-time EuroLeague champion asked the club if he could return, yet Real turd down his request.

“I texted Juan Carlos Sánchez (Real Madrid BC Director) but nothing concrete was ever discussed, it was inconsistent. I left a very good relationship with everyone and he told me that if I ever want to go back (to Real), to let him know.

When everything happened, I asked him what chances I had to return and he told me that the situation wasn’t good with everything that was happening. I understand it.

Returning to Madrid or going to any important organization in European basketball is something that makes me very excited and I hope that opportunity can be given.

I was pushed by the idea of being able to be in Mexico, there’s an opportunity to play in an NBA team, to be close to my family. I’m not closed to anything, we are looking at options and hoping that there will be an opportunity in which my family is well and I can be close to them,” Ayon said in an interview with Radio Marca.

Ayon, who spent five years with Real Madrid, signed with Mexican club Astros de Jalisco.
