Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid and longtime girlfriend Anne De Paula announced the birth of Arthur Elijah De Paula Embiid on Sept. 24.
Arthur is named after Embiid’s late brother, Arthur, who passed away at age 13 in Cameroon after he was struck by a truck while walking home from school.
Embiid’s brother’s death came just three months after the star center was drafted No. 3 overall in the 2014 NBA Draft.
Embiid posted a picture on Instagram of himself holding Arthur.
“We are so blessed and fortunate to welcome our little boy in this family,” he commented. “First of 11 or more? Trying to convince her but I’m not winning so far. I’m just trying to build a soccer team but for real I’m so excited for the future and my life has a new meaning. Kudos to @annedepaula_ for being so strong and giving me the Greatest Gift our life can offer #GodisGood”
