Gilbert Arenas shared his thoughts on Luka Doncic and what makes the superstar of the Dallas Mavericks so dominant.
The former NBA player and three-time All-Star said it is the knowledge of basketball fundamentals that makes the Slovenian star so special.
“Luka has the advantage over anyone who’s guarding him because these guys are too athletic for this part of the game. Open court? You got him. Half-court when you need to be disciplined, you never learned it.
That’s why fundamentals are important especially at a younger age. You need the fundamentals before your athleticism kicks in. Before the athleticism kicks and before the athleticism takes over.
The first thing you need to teach him is his footwork before his jumping ability kicks in. Because once a person can jump and dunk, that’s all he wants to do,” Arenas said during his appearance on Fubo Sports.
Doncic led the Mavericks to the playoffs this season for the first time since 2016.
