Red Star Belgrade advanced to the Eurocup semi-finals after they defeated Buivelnik Kiev 79-70 in overtime and 158-152 on aggregate in front of a European indoor attendance record of 24,232 at the Kombank Arena.
Charles Jenkins led all scorers with 29 points, including the game-winning first 8 points in overtime to lead the Serbians to victory in an extra session after Red Star were ahead 63-60 on the night but were tied at 142-142 with Budivelnik over two legs.
Jenkins hit back-to-back triples and scored inside to end a thrilling two-game series.
“We knew how strong Budivelnik is and we managed to hold our defence tight,” said Jenkins. “We played a very good game and managed to stop their key players. At one moment, we were losing by 10 points, but we kept believing in ourselves and continued to fight. If you work well, it usually gets rewarded in the end.”
Darjus Lavrinovic led Kiev with 17 points as they bow out of the Eurocup.
Red Star will face Unics Kazan in the last four as they completed a comfortable sweep over Aykon Ankara, winning 88-52 in the second leg and a distant 169-120 on aggregate.
Unics led from start to finish in this game as they have now won 19 of their last 20 Eurocup fixtures. Andrew Goudelock led the winners with 21 points.
Vanja Plisnic led Ankara with 13 points but the Turkish side were well beaten by the favourites.
Nizhny Novgorod overturned an 82-79 first leg deficit to beat Hapoel Jerusalem 88-72 in the second leg in Russia. They will face Valencia in the last four.
Taylor Rochestie led Novgorod with 18 points with Dijon Thompson recording a double-double of 15 points ad 13 rebounds as the hosts responded from being 21-15 down after the first quarter to storm back in the second and third quarters, leading 63-50 heading into the fourth quarter and sealing it from there.
