LaVar Ball reacted to rumors that teams could be hesitant to pick his youngest son LaMelo in this year’s NBA Draft. Father Ball denied the notion, saying if a team doesn’t pick Melo because of him, then his son is not supposed to be there. LaVar also took credit for their sons’ career.

He said if it was not for him then his sons wouldn’t be where they are right now. The oldest son Lonzo was picked second overall in 2017 and is currently with the New Orleans Pelicans. Middle son LiAngelo recently joined the G League side Oklahoma City Blue.

LaMelo Ball is projected to be a top five draft pick. According to his father, the Knicks would be the best place for him to go.

Via Jacob Rude of Lonzo Wire:

“No. I couldn’t be baggage. But here’s the thing. If you don’t take my son (based) on how you feel about me, he ain’t supposed to be there anyway. I’m not on the court. People like to make the narrative “Oh he put pressure on them.’ No, no, no. My sons wouldn’t be where they’re at without me.”
