Unicaja Malaga edged Montepaschi Siena 91-89 in an overtime thriller at the Martin Carpena Arena.

After being up by 14 points to start the fourth quarter, Siena suddenly lost their step, allowing the hosts to crawl back into contention with an Earl Calloway three, which narrowed the gap to 73-70 and an unbelievable reverse dunk three-point play from James Gist that tied the game at 73-73, completing a memorable comeback, not to mention a 14-0 run.

Viktor Sanikidze helped Montepaschi regain the lead briefly only for Unicaja Malaga to lead 80-78 but with under six seconds of regulation left, Bobby Brown drove to the lane and connected on a floater to send the game to overtime.

In the extra session, Malaga edged their Italian opponents thanks to a lay-up in traffic from Calloway with 15 seconds left and a game-winning block from Gist on Siena’s Marcelius Kemp as time expired.

Calloway, along with Marcus Williams led Malaga with 15 points each as they improve to 2-1. Bobby Brown led all scorers in vain for Montepaschi Siena with 22 points as the Italian champions are still winless from three games.

Mapooro Cantu though gave the Italians something to shout about as they beat a tough BC Khimki side 67-54 at the Pala Desio to collect their first Euroleague victory thanks to a game-winning 13-0 run in the third period.

Despite leading 21-14 after the first quarter, Khimki were then held to just 33 points in the next three quarters as a mixture of missed shots and great lockdown defence from the hosts ensured they would walk out victorious.

Pietro Anadori led Cantu with 13 points and eight rebounds while Vitaly Fridzon and Zoran Planinic each had 10 points for Khimki.

“I asked to the team to close the gap against Khimki, which is a strong team with physical power and with passion my players did it,” Cantu coach Andrea Trinchieri said afterwards.

“It was a fundamental game to win for us in this tough group, so now we’re alive.”

Panathinaikos comfortably beat Union Olimpija 85-67 in Ljubljana thanks to a throughly professional performance from the second quarter onwards.

Roko Ukic led the Greens with 14 points but it was the performance of Stephane Lasme that stoodout, as he collected eight rebounds and five blocks en route to 13 points off the bench.

Aron Baynes led the Slovenians with 16 points.

Anadolu Efes had little trouble in defeating Cedevita Zagreb 85-66 in Istanbul.

Sasha Vujacic led all scorers with 18 points as Anadolu Efes improve to 2-1. Jordan Farmar flirted with a triple-double for the second game but once again, fell short. He collected 14 points, six rebounds and nine assists to support Vujacic.

Zagreb, who fall to 0-3 were led by Marques Green and Bracey Wright, who both got 14.
