Real Madrid grabbed the first Liga Endesa trophy of the new season as they defeated Barcelona 95-84 in the Endesa Supercup.

Rudy Fernandez, fresh from his NBA spell returned to his home land and led all scorers for the winners with 22 points and five rebounds as Madrid took a small slice of revenge for last season’s Liga Endesa Finals heartbreak.

Jaycee Carroll, who narrowly missed out on a Eurobasket place with Azerbaijan in the domestic off-season contributed with 17 points for Real Madrid as they limited Barca to just 13 points in the third quarter to take advantage and claim the win.

Australian Nathan Jawai led Barcelona with 20 points with his fellow countryman Joe Ingles scoring 16 and pulling down five rebounds.

In a high-scoring first quarter, Madrid found themselves 30-23 up but Barca, who won this competition last year responded to narrow the gap to one at the half (44-43).

It was there that the Whites stepped up a few gears while Barcelona could not respond. They led 65-56 going into the fourth quarter and despite a free-scoring final period, they never looked back.
