Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar Kobe Bryant reaches an out-of-court settlement in a seven-year lawsuit that accused him of assault.

The incident that would cause Bryant trouble for years took place during Memphis Grizzlies’ home win against LA Lakers on November 14, 2005. Bryant was running after a loose ball that was heading out of bounds. He couldn’t get the ball, lost his balance and collided with a Grizzlies fan named Bill Geeslin who was sitting courtside. Geeslin, then 49, suffered a bruised lung cavity, and decided to take a legal action against Bryant.

“I recall a fast-paced incident seeing him come to me, running into me and then forearming me,” Geeslin said three years after the incident. “He intentionally forearmed me in the chest. He did not apologize. He walked away and pushed. He kind of pushed his arm toward me and glared at me and walked away.”

Geeslin passed away in 2008, but his family has pursued the lawsuit since then. Even though the case was dismissed in 2010, the Geeslin family didn’t give up their pursuit of “exceeding $75,000”.

The jury selection on the “assault and battery” case was set to begin on Monday, but it looks Kobe didn’t want things to go further, and agreed to undisclosed terms with the Geeslin family.
