Canada made short work of Mali in the final game of day one in Ankara, winning 89-23 at the Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

It was comfortable from the first basket to the last as Canada’s class showed against the undersized African side, they were not able to reach double-figures in any of the four quarters played.

Courtnay Pilypaitis led the Canadians with 15 points with Kimberley Smith contributing with 11. Mali were led by Nessira Traore’s seven points.

The game was over in the first quarter when Canada raced to a 22-6 lead after ten minutes.

Mali only hit two field goals in the entire second period and were held scoreless for the last five minutes as Canada further extended their advantage to 46-10 at half-time.

Canada eased off offensively but still held Mali to just four points again in the third, leading 65-14 heading into the fourth.

With the fourth quarter a formality, Canada eased to an easy win.

Canada play France on Tuesday night. Mali also play France on Wednesday.
