Olympic Women’s Basketball field set

The 12-team field is set for the Olympic Women’s Basketball tournament in Tokyo this summer following additional qualifiers.

In Belgrade, hosts Serbia claimed their Tokyo ticket with a convincing 76-48 win over Mozambique to finish 2-1 in Group A.

Serbia are joined at this year’s Olympics by the USA, who had qualified regardless as FIBA World Cup winners and Nigeria, who competed in the final game with USA winning 76-71. Mozambique miss out.

In Group B, China finished a perfect 3-0 following a 100-60 demolition of Korea to advance to Tokyo.

Despite the loss, the Koreans progressed as well at the expense of Great Britain, who lost to Spain 79-69 and miss out on a second Olympic appearance.

Thanks to the 10-point win, European champions Spain punch their ticket to the Olympics.

In Ostend, hosts Belgium clinched a historic first ever Olympic Games following a 61-53 win over Sweden to finish with a 2-1 record.

The Belgian Cats are joined by Canada who beat Japan 70-68 to finish 3-0. Japan (1-2) have also advanced as Olympic hosts.

Sweden (0-3) are eliminated from Olympic contention.

France completed the hat-trick of qualifying hosts as they comfortably saw-off 2016 Olympic hosts Brazil 89-72 to finish their campaign unbeaten.

The French are joined by Australia and Puerto Rico at this summer’s women’s basketball tournament with Brazil missing out.
