Zalgiris will have to start a search for a new General Manager once the season is closed. Current GM Jonas Stadalninkas has already filed a request to be fired at the end of May, according to lrytas.lt.

Stadalninkas was appointed GM on December, 2011 after long-time GM Paulius Motiejunas left the club to take a job in LKF (Lithuanian Basketball Federation).

For a while the GM position was taken by Vitoldas Masalskis who was also Zalgiris’ Sports Director. The club then decided that a new person is needed to take the duties of managing the club.

Accordingly, the search was launched. It was a public search and anyone interested in the job could apply for it. As it turned out later, 85% of all the people who applied were students.

However, the club’s owner Vladimir Romanov chose a person from the club. Jonas Stadalnininkas was an employee of Zalgiris for three years before being promoted to GM.

Stadalninkas could become the fifth GM to leave Zalgiris since Vladimir Romanov took charge of the club.
