LeBron James is now only 80 points away from tying Kobe Bryant on the NBA’s all-time scoring list and 81 from passing him. James could surpass Bryant during this Lakers’ road trip to become the third leading scorer in the league’s history.

Bryant shared his thoughts on James in purple and gold, per the LA Times’ Bill Plaschke:

“When LeBron came to Los Angeles, he is now a Laker, he is part of our brotherhood, part of our fraternity, and we should embrace him that way.

You got to celebrate … appreciate what he is as an athlete while he is here. Appreciate this guy, celebrate what he’s done, because it’s truly remarkable.”

Bryant on James approaching his career scoring mark:

“I’ll for sure call him and tell him congratulations. I’m so happy for ‘Bron, all he’s accomplished and continues to accomplish, he’s been great.”

So far this season, James is averaging 25.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 10.9 assists per game, while shooting at 49.2% from the field.
