Before getting in touch with LeBron James and eventually agreeing with the Lakers, Jared Dudley wanted to return to the Nets.
The reason why Dudley wanted to go back to Brooklyn was he wanted to play with Kevin Durant, as reported by Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News:
“I did want to go back (to the Nets). I did early on. Because before I had the Lakers, they were stalling. Obviously they had to do KD and Kyrie, and that’s fine. But then there were two days where I didn’t really hear anything from them,” Dudley said. “And they did eventually offer. But by that time, I done already talked to Bron and didn’t hear anything. At that time, I also wanted to a two-year deal to go back because I wanted to play with Durant.”
