The Washington Wizards are reportedly planning to evaluate Anthony Davis over the next 20 to 30 games before making a decision about his long-term future with the franchise.
During an appearance on ESPN LA, NBA insider Brian Windhorst explained that Washington wants to see how Davis fits alongside the team’s current players before discussing a potential contract extension.
“The Wizards basically said, ‘We want to see Anthony Davis play 20 to 30 games, see how he fits with our group, and then revisit whether we want to give him an extension.’ Obviously, if he agrees to an extension, he won’t be traded. If he doesn’t, you’ll see his name on the trade market,” Windhorst said.
Davis is eligible to sign an extension with Washington, but doing so during the season would require him to decline his player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
If he keeps that option, he would have to wait until the offseason to sign an extension.
According to Windhorst, Davis’ willingness to commit to Washington could determine whether the Wizards keep him or consider trading him.
