Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF) announced the plans to stage next year’s LKF Cup Final Four outside Lithuania for the first time in the history of the tournament.

It is estimated that currently there are around 200,000 Lithuanians living in London alone not to mention other areas of Great Britain. Therefore LKF aims for large arenas only.

Either London or Birmingham will be chosen to host LKF Final Four as both cities large enough venues for such event.

Mindaugas Balciunas, LKF Secretary General, is confident that O2 arena in London would be sold out if London is chosen as the host city.

British basketball fans shouldn’t be disappointed either as there are plan to invite British team to the tournament. It would either be BBL champions or BBL Cup winners.

The tournament would be played for two days with semi-finals on the first and the 3rd place game and a final on the second.

The last five times LKF Cup Final saw Lithuanian giants Zalgiris and Lietuvos Rytas facing each other with Zalgiris lifting the trophy on three occasions.

However, this year the tradition will not be continued as Lietuvos Rytas deidedto withdraw from the tournament.

There are plans to host LKF Final Four tournaments in other countries that have large Lithuanian communities such as Norway.
