Spain have one foot into the second round of Eurobasket after a 86-69 victory over winless Great Britain in Panevezys.

Great Britain could not contain the Gasol brothers as Pau led all scorers with 21 points and Marc recorded an impressive double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Luol Deng led Great Britain with 17 points, but it was the efforts of Spanish-based Brit Dan Clark that was praised, as he grabbed a double-double himself of 14 points and 12 rebounds.

In what was a reasonably close game in the first half, Spain broke the tie open in the third quarter by going on a 10-0 run which knocked the Brits off their feet and the lead was stretched to 16.

Earlier though, Great Britain put together a far more controlled performance then their horror show against Turkey thanks to the efforts of Clark and the crisp passing of youngster Devon Van Oostrum. Spain, who hadn’t forgotten their great escape against the Brits in Warsaw at Eurobasket 2009 had to step up a gear or two.

In the third quarter, Spain put their foot on the pedal moved up the gears. Deng went off in a little discomfort in the latter stages but was okay to continue on.

Great Britain need to win their remaining two games to stand any chance of qualifying for the next round in Vilnius.
