Chicago Bulls and Great Britain star Luol Deng will play at Eurobasket at the end of the month after his insurance was resolved and sorted.

However, Detroit Pistons guard Ben Gordon hasn’t had confirmation of his insurance document and must wait. Coach Chris Finch along with British Basketball wanted to have insurance papers both sorted in time for Great Britain’s preparations.

Deng will join his team-mates next week in Cobham, Surrey. But will not play in the two exhibition games against the Netherlands and Nigeria. He is expected to feature in the GB squad for the Olympic Test Event, which begins on August 16th.

“Playing for GB is always important to me so I’m really glad we could resolve this,” Deng said. “It is something I will always love to do and enjoy. The guys are great; we work hard an have great chemistry. I’m really looking forward to the summer.”

British Basketball’s Performance Director, Chris Spice was delighted with Deng’s involvement confirmed for this summer, but knows that there is work still to be done with Ben Gordon.

“It is great for basketball in Britain that Luol has signed up for our programme again this summer,” said a thrilled Chris Spice.

“He has always been a great supporter of the GB basketball programme and we are excited to have him on the court again this year after he played such a key role for us in qualifying last year.”

Great Britain will be in Group A for the pool stages of Eurobasket. They will be alongside Spain, Turkey, Lithuania, Poland and a qualifying team. GB play the hosts Lithuania in Panevezys on August 31st.
