At the annual Euroleague Awards Ceremony which took place earlier tonight in Barcleona, Panathinaikos’ captain Dimitris Diamantidis was named season’s MVP while himself and four other players were named All-Euroleague First Team.{jathumbnail off}

At the age of 31 Diamantidis has had the best year of his career averaging 12.4 ppg, 6.1 apg, 3.8 rpg and a ranking of 18.2 per game, leading a weakened (since last season) Panathinaikos side all the way to the Euroleague Final, which will take place at 16:30 CET tomorrow.

Diamantidis, who has also won the Defensive Player of the Season award some weeks earlier, was also named in the All-Euroleague First Team, alongside with Juan Carlos Navarro (Barcelona), Fernando San Emeterio (Caja Laboral). Michael Batiste (Panathinaikos) and Sofocles Schrotsianitis (Maccabi TA).

In fact Dimitris Diamantidis becomes the first player to combine an MVP and DPOY award and is the first to be part of all three awards since the specific awards format was established back in 2005. Definitely a season to remember for him.
