Zalgiris and KK Zagreb unbeaten in the NIJT after day 2

Zalgiris Kaunas and KK Zagreb are the only two unbeaten teams after Day 2 of the Nike International Junior Tournament which is held in Palau San Jordi in Barcelona during the 2011 Euroleague Final Four.

For the first time in the history of the competition there is a non-European team participating. Team China made their debut in the tourney, but after two games their balance is 0-2 after losses against Zalgiris (46:73) and Regal FC Barcelona (77:83).

During the first day of the NIJT in Group A FMP lost to Fenerbahce Ulker (78:80) after 22 points by Berkay Candan and 16 by Erbil Eroglu. KK Zagreb, led by Dario Saric (19 points and 13 rebounds) and Dominik Mavra (16 points and 11 boards) defeated last year’s champion INSEP 76:65. As we already mentioned Team China lost to Zalgiris 46:73 after  strong performances by Tauras Jagela and Justas Tamulis, who finished with 14 points a piece. The host team Regal FC Barcelona suffered a 56:73 loss against KK Crvena Zvezda, as Marko Radonjic and Andrija Bozic scored 14 points each for Zvezda..

Today KK Zagreb thrashed KK FMP 65:86 after 31 points by Mavra and 17 by Saric. INSEP defeated Fenerbahce Ulker 68:80 as Livio Jean-Charles scored 21 points. Regal FC Barcelona defeated Team China 77:83, led by Jozep Perez’s 23 points. Zalgiris achieved their second straight win after 74:65 against KK Crvena Zvezda after 15 points by Arturas Gudaitis.

There is one more round tomorrow, as after that the first-placed teams in each group will play in the final on Sunday at 10.00.
