Dimitris Diamantidis of Panathinaikos has been voted as the Euroleague Defensive Player of the Season.

The award should not come as a surprise as this is his 6th Defensive Player award in the last seven seasons.

The Greek point guard easily won the voting by Euroleague coaches, earning more than twice the votes than the second player. This comes to, furthermore, establish Diamantidis as one of the Euroleague’s best defenders of all times.

Standing at 196cm Diamantidis is the shortest player in the Euroleague Top20 rebounders and Top25 blockers while he is third at the most steals list, since Euroleague’s establishment back in 2000.

The other three players who got the most votes were Shaun Stonerook of Montepaschi Siena and Doron Perkins and Chuck Eidson, both of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
