The NBA Draft 2020 may be 275 days away but the scouts are constantly working and watching potential draft prospects. One of the hottest names of the coming draft is LaMelo Ball who decided to prepare for the NBA in Australia by joining the Illawarra Hawks.

Here is what and NBA scout told to Jonathan Givony of ESPN after LaMelo Ball dominated an NBL Blitz game in Tasmania:

“He reminds me of Luka Doncic. Just in terms of his size, his feel, and his creativity. He plays with incredible pace, he’s never sped up, he’s never rattled by anything that’s thrown at him. You’re expecting something magical to happen every time he has the ball. He sees everything, he can make every pass with either hand off a live dribble, and he completely controls the game for that unique vantage point. His style of play is tailor-made for the NBA game, especially if you surround him with shooting and better finishers. The fact that he changed his mechanics, improved his shot-selection and has become more consistent shot-making threat is huge. His on-court demeanor and body language around teammates has improved considerably and he’s putting forth better effort defensively than I thought he would, and he has a little more toughness getting on the glass and throwing his body around than he gets credit for. It was important for me to see how well he reacted to getting benched by his coach midway through the first quarter after making a couple of bad decisions. He didn’t sulk for one second, he came back in in the second quarter and led them on a huge run to get them back in the game.”

As of now, LaMelo is projected to be a Top 5 draft pick in 2020. Depending on how his season in Australia goes he could go up even to #1.
