Sergey MonyaAfter the serious injury of the team's current captain Viktor Khryapa, Sergey Monya is the likeliest candidate to be awarded the captaincy of the team.

Of course all this will become reality in case that Khryapa will miss the Eurobasket 2009 eventually. The final tests on the

injured leg of the player will be made on September 5, just two days before the start of the tournament, but chances are that Khryapa will stay out of Eurobasket 2009.

In that case Sergey Monya of Dynamo Moscow will become the captain and Khimki's Vitaliy Fridzon the vice-captain.

FIBA Europe has extended the deadline for Russia to register another player for the tournament, until September 6th, just a day before Eurobasket starts.
